Scott, Tom

October 23, 1951 ~ July 30, 2025

IMG 0997It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Thomas “Tom” Leslie Scott announce his peaceful passing, surrounded by loved ones at St. Joesph’s Hospice on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the age of 73. Loving husband of 53 years to Lucy. Proud and caring father to Brad (Jen), Jenn (Max) Derrick, and Ryan (Karlene). Adored Papa to Kelby and Kaeley Derrick, Cole, Adam and Jake Scott.  Predeceased by his parents Charles George (1998) and Shirley Blanche (2023).  Dear brother of Donald (Karen) and Ric (Colleen) and sisters-in-law Brenda (the late Joe) Blake, Nancy Fuchs, and brothers-in-law Wayne Saunders and the late Richard Saunders.  Survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom spent 30 years working as a first class stationary engineer at Nova Chemicals.  He had a lifelong passion for baseball, both as a talented player in his youth playing for Wilkesport and as a devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers.  He enjoyed golf and bowling, and after retiring, he joined men’s leagues for both, cherishing the weekly games and the company of good friends. Tom cheered for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Lions, and you could always find him at the ball diamond or arena watching his children and grandchildren play both baseball and hockey. He was always up for a game of cards, playing euchre, poker, and thirty one were some of his favourites. Tom was known for his sense of humour and ability to make people laugh.  He always had a good joke or story and had nicknames for many that were close to him.  He found peace and joy in the simple pleasures, being next door to the family farm where he grew up, spending time back in the bush during maple syrup season and enjoying time with the people he loved most.  Tom’s steady presence, quick wit and deep love for his family will be missed beyond words by all who knew him. Tom has had many health challenges this past year, we would like to thank Dr. Sherwin and Dr. Alsibidi. A special thank you to Dr. Kim and all of the physicians and nurses that were so caring and wonderful to Tom and our family while he was at Bluewater Health. Although his time at St. Joseph’s Hospice was short, we are extremely grateful for the compassion shown by everyone involved in his care.

Visitation
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, August 6 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Steadman Brothers Funeral Home, Brigden.  A private family burial of ashes will be at a later date.

Donations
Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice www.stjosephhospice.ca.
