Dr. Ah-King “Danny” Li Wan Po

May 12, 1942 ~ January 14, 2026

IMG 6419 2It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Ah-King (Danny) Li Wan Po at his home, surrounded by family, on January 14, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Danny was born on the island of Mauritius on May 12, 1942. After graduating from Galway University, he spent nine years practicing medicine in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and Saskatchewan before settling in his forever home of Petrolia, Ontario. There, he served the community as a devoted family physician from 1970 until his retirement.
Danny loved Petrolia and his patients, enjoying his practice immensely. He often remarked that his greatest joy was delivering babies, and he took immense pride in having delivered multiple generations of “Hard Oilers.” Throughout his career, he was expertly supported by his dedicated staff: Sharon McGregor, Norma McIntyre, Jan Orvis, and Shelley Loerts. Many of his patients became close friends, several of whom provided great support and comfort during his illness.
Danny is survived by his five children: David (Ginette), Marc, Nicole (Darcy), Dalton, and Brandon (Sarah); and his two beloved grandchildren, Jack and Reese. He is also remembered by Jeanne (mother of his three eldest children) and Christine (mother of his two youngest children).
The son of the late Emmanuel and Ng Sun Lan, Danny was also predeceased by eight half-siblings. He is survived by his siblings Paul, Jacques, Alain, George, and Jacqueline, as well as his half-siblings James and Suzy, along with their respective spouses and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their deep gratitude to his colleagues for their exceptional care and treatment: Dr. John Butler, Dr. Clifford, Dr. Kim, Dr. Lebert, Dr. Lam, and Dr. Mather, as well as his dedicated nursing and PSW team: Wendy, Sheila, and Christina.
Heartfelt thanks go to his family and inner circle of friends who were a steadfast source of support over the last three years: Christine Liwanpo and Bruce Thompson; Esther Waybrant; Francis and Lorie Haight and family; Ross and Debbie Pettigrew and family; Sue Mather and Mark Minielly; Florence Moore and Marcel Beaubien; Sharon and the late Stu McGregor; David and Carol Morgan; Gisele and the late Rick Bidner; Wendy Bidner; Bruce and the late Ginny Gray; and Randy Drydak.
In lieu of flowers, it was Danny’s final wish that those who would like to honor his memory practice a random act of kindness for a neighbor or a gesture of support for those less fortunate.
Cremation has taken place. A private gathering to celebrate Danny’s life and legacy will be held at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steadman Brothers Funeral Chapels, Brigden, Ontario.
