Duncan, Holly Ione

November 03, 1939 ~ October 21, 2021

DUNCAN, Holly Ione – It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Holly Ione Duncan (nee Phillips) on October 21st, just thirteen days before her 82nd birthday. We are forever thankful for the opportunity to have been loved by such a kind hearted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Holly was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. She spent her younger years growing up in the town of Petrolia, and often told us how she had to walk from the east end to the west end, either to go to school or to work at Tobias’. Holly ventured out of town with her best friend and husband, John, to try out life on the farm. John was able to convert Holly to living out in the country and together they created many wonderful memories raising their family. Holly enjoyed road trips in the motor home, drives along the river and stops for ice cream – particularly strawberry flavour. Anyone who knew her could tell you that her favourite colour was pink, and only she could pull off painting the kitchen fuchsia. She always found her way to Sunday morning church service and especially enjoyed bible study group. She loved music, and could often be found dancing along to her favourite tunes. Her quick wit always guaranteed to put a smile on your face and she was one of the most caring individuals we had the pleasure of having in our lives. Family was dear to Holly’s heart, and whether it was a card hand delivered to your doorstep or an extra kiss on the cheek, she always found a way to make each of us feel loved. We know she will be smiling, and pass on a hello from all of us, as she reunites with her loving husband of 58 years, John Duncan. Holly is the devoted mother to Mike (Cathy) Unsworth, Reg (Lisa) Duncan, Rod Duncan, Wendy (Rick) O’Hara, Kevin (Jenny) Duncan and Kayleen (Pete) Clubb. Grandma to Derek, Danny, David (Sabrina) and the late Chad Unsworth, Meghan and Tabitha Duncan and Jacob and Jessica Munday, Jason (Christie) and Nicole (Josh) Duncan, Janessa (Matt) and Jaelyn O’Hara and Duncan and Eric Clubb. Great grandma to Kaylyn, Ava, Autumn, Austin, Rylee and Jameson. Holly is survived by her brother, and great friend, Randy (Vinetta) Phillips and by sibling in laws Jackie (Sam) Kay, Rick (Cheska) Duncan, Alice Duncan, Don Metcalfe and Kathy Duncan. Holly is predeceased by her parents, Harwood and Mabel Phillips (nee Young), and by siblings Barry Phillips and Paul (Sophie) Phillips and by sibling in laws Kenneth Duncan, Betty (Bill) Hackett, Don Duncan, Merlyn – ‘Pork’ (Ann) Duncan, Shirley Metcalfe, Jean (Bob) McDonald, Doug Duncan and Ralph Duncan. Holly leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends and neighbours who will miss her visits, warm smile and cheerful laugh. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Leonard and the staff at CEE hospital of Petrolia for taking such wonderful care of Holly over the past week. A grateful thank you to Rev. Deanna Gibson from Brigden United Church for coming to visit Holly and taking the time to chat with her. We hope you know just how fond of you she was. As Holly would always tell us, it is never a goodbye – just a see you later.
