Shirley Freer was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully at Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital – Bluewater Health on Tuesday, November 15th at the age of 88. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 66 years, Stanley Ernest Freer. Shirley is survived by her children Cheryl (late Dennis) Kelly, Frederick Freer, Charlene (Gary) Waters. Her grandchildren Kyle (Josee) Kelly, Danica (Nicholas) Prangley, Cole Freer, Dylan Waters, Karley Waters. Shirley will be dearly missed by her great grandchildren Keign, Hudson, Katelyn, Nixon & Morgan, Camden & Reid. Lovingly remembered by her siblings Edythe (late Ross) Wilson, Corinne (Jerry) Kinsman, Gloria (Ken) LaPierre. She is predeceased by her brothers Murray (Pat) Mills, Gary Mills and her parents Frederick and Pelma (Cole) Mills.

Shirley was born to Frederick and Pelma Mills in 1934 living in Brigden, Ontario. Stan and Shirley were married for 66 years. They resided on the Rokeby line family farm where they raised their three children and had a full house of grand and great-grandchildren at all times. Their farm was welcoming and felt like home to many. The greatest gifts in life are love and time, Shirley blessed her family and the community around her with both. In addition to her devotion to family she was a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse for Bluewater Health, C.E.E. Site, Petrolia. She graduated from Sarnia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 and completed a successful 40 year career as a recognized and accomplished RN. Her legacy of love and laughter will live on through her family and those who loved her most.

Shirley’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Lambton County EMS as well as the staff at C.E.E. Hospital, Petrolia for their devoted care and compassion in her last few days.

At Shirley’s request there will be no public visitation or funeral service.
