HAYWARD, Norene “Dorothy” –The family of Dorothy Hayward are saddened to share her sudden passing at Twin Lakes Terrace, Sarnia on Sunday, February 11, 2018. At the age of 97 she is now home with her Lord and Saviour. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (GG), she is survived by her son Richard (Bonnie), grandchildren Todd (Jessica), Meredith (Lachlan), Blair (Gina), great-grandchildren Reegan, Clara, Lilah and Marah. Last of the family lines she was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Jack (2002), infant daughter Jacqueline (1938), parents Lorne and Olive Shephard, brothers Gerald and George, sisters Norma and Bernice. Born August 6, 1920 in Wilkesport, she spent much of her life in the Brigden area. She was an active member of her community and spent many hours volunteering with the Brigden Fair Ladies. She made legal history in 1954 when she was sworn in as the first female juror in Lambton County. Always the care giver, Dorothy was a strong and independent woman relying on her faith to get her through the hardships of life. At Dorothy’s request cremation has taken place.

Visitation
Family and friends will be received at STEADMAN BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, Brigden on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

Funeral Service
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:00am from the funeral home. Interment to follow at Bear Creek Cemetery.

I just had a phone conversation with her a couple of weeks ago. We had many laughs and she had such great faith. The love for her family was her main priority.     Dear Dorothy was one of the first people I met in Brigden at the the old grocery store, making me feel so welcome upon moving here. We shared many a joke, that only we could share….She was always so proud of her family, as well she should have been. She will be missed, a fine, one of a kind woman. Thinking about you all at this sad time.

As the Minister from Wilkesport and a volunteer with the Sarnia Seniors Ministry Dorothy often delighted Myrna Hyatt and me with her Wilkesport-Brigden stories and reminiscing about her time in the community. We will miss her bright smile at Twin Lakes but know what a blessing she has been to so many, and is now blessed in her continuing eternal life.
