John Donald Lang of Brigden passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Bluewater Health, Sarnia, at the age of 96. Don was the best friend and loving husband for 72 years to his late wife Emmalene (2022). Devoted and generous father to his four sons Chris (Sharon), Wally (Terry Lynn), David (Malgorzata, deceased) and Alex (Mona). Cherished by 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Virgina Wray. Predeceased by his parents John and Mae (Wallace) Lang and by his brother Wallace Lang, who died in World War II. Don was raised in Sarnia where he became active in youth groups and as a basketball coach at St. Paul’s United Church. In 1952, when he came to the Brigden area, he became a boy scout leader. Don was a well respected and enthusiastic farmer for years, first as a “part-time” farmer while he was employed as a technologist at Imperial Oil. Later, when he retired after 38 years’ service at Imperial he became a “full time farmer” for the next 40 years. He never gave up the hope that “next year will be better”, and they were.

Wally and Lang families, Brian and I were saddened to hear about Don’s passing. Lots of childhood memories on the Lang pond! As a kid growing up in Brigden I feel we were blessed to have parents who were also mentors to all of us. I always enjoyed seeing and visiting with Don at the Remembrance Day service. I know he will be greatly missed, but remembered with love.

Sad to learn of Don’s passing. I remember watching his young family grow at the end of that long lane where I delivered their Sarnia Observer over 60 years ago. Don always seemed positive and encouraging of young people, whether on the pond across the fence on the Poland farm or taking some of us Scouts on an errand in his VW camper. Good times! Condolences to the family.
Sending my condolences to the Lang family. I remember Don as always having a kind word whenever I met him and Em. He certainly was a special guy. He will certainly be missed in the community. Treasure your memories. May he rest in peace.
