LUMLEY, Joan Marilyn – Peacefully with her family by her side, Joan Marilyn Lumley (nee Squires) passed away on Thursday October 7th, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Left to mourn are her husband of 59 years, Philip and her 7 children, Valerie Stairs (Joe), Mike Lumley (Elizabeth), Patrick Lumley (Adele), Melody Card, Cindy Mallette (Jason), Ted Lumley, Josy Dibenedetto (Josh). Loving grandmother to Steve, Joe, Amy, Emerald, Jarred, Brittany, Nathan and Dominic. Great grandmother of 12 and aunt of many nieces and nephews. Also survived by her 2 sisters, Norma Pyne and Kathy Lamore (Bill). Predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Freda Squires and sisters Florence Smeltzer and Helen Sullivan. Joan’s passing has left an incredible void in her beloved family and local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Joan’s love for her children and grandchildren was foremost in her daily routine. The valuable life lessons she taught will continue to live on in them. Joan touched many lives within the small community of Wilkesport where she has spent the last 40 years.  She will be missed. Special thanks for the exceptional care received from her family, home care nurse Samantha, Dr. Kim and the compassionate Nurses, PSW’s and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia. Much appreciated too were the visits, cards and flowers from her friends in the Wallaceburg Congregation.

  1. Deepest condolences to all of the Lumley family. I met Joan and Phil when I was very young and to say she went out of her way to try to steer me right, is an understatement. Although I moved away, somehow she was always there when I had a rough patch in life.. during times of my own mom, dad, or sister passing I’d turn around and literally there she was with a hug and a word of comfort… We had gotten quite close over the last bunch of years mostly through text or occasional call.. opening up or lives, past and present.. she was so proud of all her children, and grandchildren. The stories she told. I adored her. Let’s not forget Phil he was the love her life, she would keep me up to date with his shenanigans. Whether working on a car or feeding the chickens, he never stopped it seems. I’ve rambled on… but let it be known Joan was loved and will be missed by me and many more. Rest easy Joan. Your job here is complete. Love always Joe
