Good PictureThe family of William (Bill) David Stonehouse sadly announce his peaceful passing at the age of 83 in CEE Hospital; the very hospital where he was born on March 4, 1943.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon (Robinson), with whom he recently celebrated 62 years of marriage on August 1, 2026.

He was the proud father to Lisa (Karl) Vanderzwart and Scott (Bobi) Stonehouse. He was even more proud to be grandpa, papa, or just plain ‘Bill’ to his grandchildren Erik (Hunter) Vanderzwart, Meghan (Eben) Vankoughnett, Kennedy (Austin) Jansen, and Seth (Ava) and Tayt Stonehouse. He enjoyed watching his grandkids in their various activities like soccer, dance, hockey, football, and especially looked forward to sale days with Seth.

Bill is also survived by his brother Bob (Lorraine) Stonehouse and his sister-in-law Maribeth (Frank) George. He is predeceased by parents Wesley Stonehouse (2004) and Nina (Rawlings) (2009), mother-in law Mary Shaw (2006), father-in-law Roy Robinson (1976), sister Lori Brown (2025), nephew Jamie (1987), brother-in-law Terry Thompson (2019), and daughter-in-law Darcy (Fox) Stonehouse (2024).

While Bill had a few jobs during his life from working construction and the Department of Highways, to working for the County of Lambton Roads Department, his true love was working on the farm and caring for his beloved animals. He was proud to have carried on a nearly 100 year tradition milking cows for the Stonehouse family, and even to this day he often said there was nothing better than the view of rolling green pastures dotted with black and white cows. In his later years he collected and sold eggs.

Anyone who knew him knew a couple things to be true:

  1. He had a huge sweet tooth, and one of his greatest pleasures was drinking a (warm) Diet Coke, and he never turned down a piece of pie or scoop of ice cream.
  2. Nearly everyone he met ended up with a nickname. The Warden, Dolly, Henry, Woodboot, Chumlee, Margaret, Hazel, Howard, Charlie, Ava Maria, Burt, Wrench, Lil’ Wrench, George, Tunia, Lil’ Tunia, Schnoz, Short Ass, Hamburger Dan, Dude, Tiny, T, Rosie and Doc Holiday were just a few. You know who you are.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the many doctors and nurses that helped Bill over the years, and especially those that kept him comfortable in the last month of his life. Dr. John Butler, Dr, McCreedy, Dr. Sheddy, Dr. Cool, Dr, Ernst, Dr. Nelligan, Dr. Moon, Dr. Iyer, and the staff at Bluewater health (Sarnia and Petrolia).

Hunter S. Thompson once wrote “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’”. Over the years, Bill was often told he had nine lives, and many doctors told him he was one in a million. Whether either of those things were true, it just means we got a little more time with him, for which we are thankful. We like to imagine Bill arrived at the end, nine lives used up, loudly proclaiming the same.

Funeral Details
A private family service and burial will take place.

Celebration of LIfe
A Celebration of Life will take place on August 15, 2026 at the Wyoming Legion (493 Erie St, Wyoming, ON N0N 1T0) from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. All are welcome to stop by.

    Bill was our best man and Bob was Bills best man..Just not long before our wedding the two guys took the train to Coloroda to visit a close friend, and had such a great time.. Just a great guy with lots of kindness for everyone. Will miss you Bill. Such touching memories. hugs to you all.

I first met Bill at the transfer station 3 years ago, we hit it off from the word go…l always looked forward to Bills visit on Wednesday afternoons .
