Sutherland, Leslie Edward

February 17, 1948 ~ October 21, 2020

With deeply saddened hearts, the family of Leslie Sutherland of Mooretown announces his peaceful passing at home, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, October 21st, 2020 at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Alice May for 53 years. Cherished dad to Cheri (Kevin) Helps and Chad Sutherland. Proud and loving grandpa to Travis and Emily Helps and Zachary and Jordyn Sutherland. Predeceased by his parents, Don (1985) and Helen (2000) Sutherland, his brother Earl (1977) Sutherland and his father and mother in law, Arnold (1979) and Eva (2018) Robbins. Les was born in Springhill, NS, moving to Ontario with his family at the age of 7, growing up at the family owned gas station at the corner of Kimball Road and Petrolia Line. Les was a welder by trade, owning his own business and was a member of the UA Local 663. From a young age, he mastered his welding trade, his woodworking hobby and his knowledge of cars and boats. He never backed down from a project, the more challenging, the better. He enjoyed tinkering at the farm, spending time on the water in his boat or on his jet ski, taking a drive in his Corvette, or creating a masterpiece in his woodworking shop. He was an avid spectator and supporter in all of his children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular and sporting activities. He enjoyed his many travels across Canada and the USA. Much time was spent in many Caribbean countries during the winter months, especially enjoying his time in Barbados, and sailing on the tall ships. Words cannot describe how truly missed Les will be by his family and friends. For those who knew and loved Les, our hearts are truly broken now, but we hope our grief will be comforted with the memories. Above all else, he loved and treasured his time with his family. A sincere thank you to Dr. Clifford and the VON Home Care Team for their care.
