Vera jean was such a wonderful resident to look after, I enjoyed her stories when she was young, working in a shoe store right up to the end of life. Vera loved her mid evening wine and ginger ale and it was always our mission to make sure she got it before dinner. Vera was (secretly) my favourite resident on Barclay, you could “never” leave the room without her asking for a hug and a kiss. I’m glad I got time to spend with her as she was full of life and greater than life itself. I will miss her so much.
Aunt Jean was one of our cherished aunts in the extended Wilson family, and occasionally, one of my stand-in mothers. She was a frequent presence in my younger life as a beloved sorority sister and friend of my late mother Ellen Wilson, and I was always welcomed to stay with her in later life as an occasional visiting room-mate. I was the lucky one to share her shoe size and to inherit a few beautiful pairs over the years! And we had the special bond of sharing one of her names (Marie), something she first pointed out to me as a young child. I am very grateful for my many visits to her over the years, the last just a few months ago. Recognizing my voice as I approached her from behind, she told those with her ‘that’s my niece Marie from Yellowknife’! I am truly sorry I cannot be with you today to help remember and honour her long life. My condolences to Carol and Brian and your families, and to Aunt Eva, Uncle Cec and Aunt Lois who were more than family as longtime neighbours and friends, and to cousin Corinne who spent special years with Aunt Jean at Doug Keddy Shoes, and to the entire extended Wilson family. Love to all, Niece/Cousin Marie 🌹❤️

To Jean’s Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Jean was such a treasure to know.
Oh, have I missed my Tuesday mornings with this Dear Lady.
I hope she knew I did not want our time to end like it did. But I know she understood why I had to make the choice I did.
I loved her so and missed all our chats when I did her hair.
Rest in Paradise Dear Jean,
Love,
Paula Hoskin
